"Must be nice to have good genes"

Hi Reader,

I want to tell you about my mum.

She's 81. She takes no pharmaceuticals. She has a vitality and quality of life that most people half her age would genuinely envy, and almost every time I share a photo of her, the comments are some version of the same thing.

"Must be nice to have good genes."

Here's what those people don't know.

Her dad died in his early 50s. Her mum died in her early 70s, having spent the decades before that unwell. My clearest memory of my nan's kitchen is a pantry stacked with cans and packets, processed food, pretty much across the board.

Same bloodline. Completely different outcomes.

My mum didn't get lucky. She’s made different choices, consistently, across many decades. Real food cooked at home. Regular movement that is just part of how she lived. A strong social life. Natural skincare products. A low toxic load. Good rhythms. None of it complicated, none of it expensive, just really, really consistent.

There's a saying many naturopaths use: genes load the gun, but environment pulls the trigger. Your food, your sleep, your stress levels, your toxic load, these things have an enormous influence over how your genes express themselves and how you age. You have far more agency over your long-term health than the wellness industry would sometimes have you believe.

It doesn't require a perfect protocol or an expensive supplement or skincare stack. It requires simple, consistent foundations, returned to again and again.

Chronic inflammation is one of the most significant drivers of how we age and how we feel day to day. Most people have no idea how high their inflammatory load is sitting, because it builds quietly, over time, in ways that are easy to explain away as "just getting older."

If you're not sure where yours sits right now, the free Inflammation Quiz is a really good place to start. It takes about five minutes and gives you a much clearer picture of where to focus first.

And if you're ready to go further, the Inflammation Reset inside the Well Nourished membership gives you the practical tools, the food foundations, and the naturopathic guidance to actually start shifting your inflammatory load, not with a complicated protocol, but with simple, sustainable changes that hold.

RECIPES | WELLNESS HUB | HEALTHY KIDS | SHOP Hi Reader, There is no quick fix for how you're feeling right now. Not the elimination diet, not the gut protocol, not the liver cleanse, not the supplement stack that promises complete resolution in a week. I know that's not what you want to hear. But after nearly 30 years as a Naturopath, I'd be doing you a disservice if I pretended otherwise. The wellness industry is very good at making complexity feel solvable in one purchase. Pick a protocol,...

No jarred sauce, no additives, no ingredients you'd need to google. Just a homemade teriyaki that takes minutes to put together and tastes far better than anything in a bottle. This recipe is a good...

RECIPES | WELLNESS HUB | HEALTHY KIDS | SHOP Hi Reader, A few weeks ago I went into a supermarket for the first time in a long time. I went in to film some content for a shopping series I've been running on social media, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much beyond a bit of background footage. But I hadn't actually walked the aisles in well over six months, and what I found when I did genuinely stopped me in my tracks. Even in the fresh fruit and vegetable section, the amount of processed...
